The loom is back!

Currently obsessed with twills.

And ready for action. The loom got a much needed tune up - there were a few loose screws and my last weaving piece showed it. Oy. It's better, although I think I need to deal with the front beater. There are some cracks showing and that can never be a good sign...

Busy, busy...

"Diane Von Furstenberg debuts the first wrap dress" via Impact CFDA Timeline at FIT

Sorry to not be posting. I've been busy with all those "life" things that get in the way of creating. You know like preparing taxes, going to the free Museum at FIT with a friend, starting tap lessons again... going to a sheep shearing. Okay, so that last thing hasn't happened yet but it will hopefully tomorrow and when it does I am going to flood this website with pictures. Watch for it.

Cat Fancy

Difficult to quilt while there is a cat wrapped in it

Another post dedicated to that ridiculous cat named Socks.

I learned quickly that I can't leave things out. Like, ever.

Thankfully she hasn't ruined anything!

Stoppin' traffic

I have a confession. My attempts at getting truly vibrant colors have been futile as of late. When I mean vibrant, I mean so vibrant that it makes your eyes hurt because the color looks like it's physically moving the medium it's in.

But recently it seems the tides have turned. And of course I didn't even mean to do it. Isn't that always the way? But this neon orange - I'm sorry, we should really call it traffic cone orange - looks pretty awesome.

Meet Gustav

Cute, right? His name is Gustav and he and Leonard are shipped off to a new home for some adorable twins I know. He was made from a pattern I found here using the sequin sweater. That magenta material? I found it at IKEA, of all places.

I'd like to think he gives new meaning to spotted pig.

Lego Lion

I was recently at the NY Public Library. I (gasp) had never been inside before and went with a couple friends who were in town. Besides seeing the awesome ceilings and amazing wood work, there were two lego lion sculptures by Nathan Sawaya at the entrance. They use more than 60,000 standard gray lego blocks.

Look at that texture! Yum. I really wanted to touch it, but the security guard at the door was eyeing me somethin' fierce.

Meet Leonard

Sometimes when I'm having one of those days (or weeks!) I like to lighten my spirit by making goofy things. Like puppets and stuffed animals, possibly a gnome or two. Today I'd like you to meet Leonard.
He has a little surprise underfoot, er, under-tentacle.
Rainbow buttons!
Originally based off my first design, Inky who had a more pastel look to her.

New life

A small portion of what I've been making involves using old clothes or scraps of fabric. Oddly it has nothing to do with my interest in preserving our resources or attempting to reduce waste which I try to do as much as possible in the other areas of my life, but more to do with not spending money for virgin fabric. Not to mention I get the biggest thrill out of trying to figure out what to do with an odd piece, and moreover the person on the receiving end gets a one-of-a-kind item. Win-win, really.

A couple months ago I received this awesome pink with sequins wool tank from a friend. She had it for years, and it was going to the fiber recycler. Unfortunately it had a few moth holes, rendering it unwearable so I decided to take it and turn it into... something. Except I couldn't quite get inspired. Recently - 6 months after receiving the tank - I had a chance to use it! Stay tuned to find out for what...
